About me

Hey there, I’m Derick! A South African expat with a passion for communication, nature, and photography, currently calling Taiwan home. Since 2004, I’ve been immersed in the vibrant culture of Taiwan, living with my girlfriend, Jo, since way back in 1996, and enjoying the company of our two dogs, Lady and Sirius.

Professionally, I help high-tech professionals improve their communication skills. I specialize in business English training for Chinese speakers. My goal is to bridge linguistic gaps and help people to communicate effectively.

Outside of work, you’ll find me exploring the countryside around our coffee shop – turned – home in Beipu, camera in hand, trying to capture the beauty of Taiwan’s birds and landscapes.

I’m always up for a good chat about communication strategies, photography, or the best travel spots around Taiwan!

But, more seriously, I teach, I write, I consult.

Over the years I have helped many with small projects, and big challenges. I helped clients to get ready for a job interview and to prepare for keynote speeches at international events. I helped individuals gain confidence to speak better, sales teams to excel abroad, businesses to negotiate, and trained the employees of huge companies to work overseas.
